Childhood Cancer Organization Works to Support Families in Crisis
About Donato Marinelli
About
Based in New Jersey, Donato Marinelli is an accomplished real estate investor. He is also a generous donor to a wide range of medical and community service organizations, at both the local and the national level. Among the groups that have earned Donato Marinelli’s support is the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO), the largest and longest-serving grassroots nonprofit focused on fighting pediatric cancers.
ACCO was established by families whose own children were fighting the disease. Previously known as the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, it celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020. Since 1970, it has provided assistance to about half a million families, supporting research and development, public education, and the provision of educational resources to young patients with cancer and their loved ones.
Among its many programs, ACCO provides links to information detailing the types of financial help that families of patients might desperately need. Knowing that numerous families - even those covered by health insurance - go through extensive financial hardship during a child’s illness, the organization offers details on foundations that provide a variety of grants that support basic needs and physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
These grants cover general household support, funds to help pay for sports participation and other extracurricular activities, and financial services help to parents struggling with debt, job loss, and other economic hardships. For more information, visit ACCO.org.
